The Oakwood Heights project combines the science of building, the art of design, and the ideal of environmental sustainability to create beautiful urban homes that are affordable, energy efficient, and environmentally-friendly.
The project is comprised of 33 units, a state of the art fitness center, pool, gardens, and off street parking. Owners will enjoy large front and back balconies, huge picture windows, sidewalks, and natural scape views.
Conceptual ideas include designing the units around common green spaces that will serve as a forum for community connections. Plants used will be native and non-invasive. Large north facing windows will capture the daylight. Geothermal heating and cooling will come as standard options with the ability to upgrade to solar panels when the owner is ready. The parking materials used will be pervious and bioretention areas will be used where needed. The roof will be constructed of a material that reflects light and heat to control the indoor temperatures. All of these features add up to immense energy savings for each individual homeowner. Additionally, the pool will utilize natural salt purification instead of the widely used harsh chemicals. Future sustainable options will be provided in the infrastructure of the units. Each home will earn an energy star rating.
Living at Oakwood Heights will be a lifestyle choice, not just an address. The homes are designed for those who want to live in a truly green environment that is as beautiful as it is responsible. The community is being designed to accommodate people of all ages, including those with specific mobility requirements.
The project is located on the Gillie’s Creek Bluff in Richmond’s historic Church Hill neighborhood. The lot sits on vacant land between Marshall and Broad Streets where they dead end at the edge of the bluff.
Homes will be close to downtown, VCU, MCV, shopping, restaurants, night life, public transportation, and they are affordable!
